The Samco
System Film

Developed and manufactured by SAMCO, the different types of OXO-biodegradable film covering the seed rows are specifically made for rolling out behind SAMCO maize planting machines. The film is strong enough to be pulled through the machine but weak enough to allow the young plants to eventually break through at their correct growth stage.

AERATION UNDER COVER

SAMCO has developed and patented three aeration systems to avoid the overheating of young plants under film.

1.

Pin Hole perforations – the pin holes trap the maximum amount of heat under the film and is suitable for early maize plantings where outside temperatures do not exceed 25°C during the first weeks after planting.

2.

MD Slots – these are 2 cm long above the planted maize to ensure aeration around the plant at the early stage of growth and is suitable where outside temperatures do not exceed 30°C during the first weeks after planting.

3.

TD Slots – these slots are 9 cm long above the planted rows and sustain a large movement of air ventilation around the young plants where the risk of frost is minimal. The plant breaks through the TD type of film much easier than MD and Pin Hole film.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

The SAMCO film is OXO-biodegradable under UV sunlight and through the soil organisms, turning it into CO2 and water. It is possible to have more than 90% film degradation before harvest with the remainder to follow. The selection of film is matched to climatic conditions and crop type for a controlled rate of degradation.

THE FILM IS INTEGRAL TO THE SAMCO SYSTEM OF ENCOURAGING PLANT ESTABLISHMENT AND GROWTH BECAUSE IT:

  • Provides a greenhouse effect.
  • Accumulates extra heat units.
  • Conserves water use and soil moisture.
  • Allows adequate ventilation through pin holes and aeration slots.
  • Limits temperature build-up without losing too much warmth.
