Managing maize for greater yield
Date: 27 April 2017
The American Corn Growers Association National Maize Grain Yield Contest achieved a new world maize grain record of 33.4 t/ha in 2015. An analysis of the competition results over time shows the importance of keeping plant population up. For entries above 25 t grain/ha there was a linear relationship between population and yield with each 12,000 plants/ha corresponding to a 1.9 t/ha increase in yield.
